Three Minute Thesis (3MT®) is a research communication competition developed by The University of Queensland (UQ). The exercise challenges graduate students to present a compelling oration on their thesis topic and its significance in just three minutes. 3MT® develops academic, presentation, and research communication skills and supports the development of research students' capacity to effectively explain their research in language appropriate to a non-specialist audience according to our guidelines.
In the past, we have held our 3MT® competition in the Spring, but we’ve moved the competition to the Fall so that our winner can advance to the regional competition in February 2019, in Knoxville Tennessee at the Conference of Southern Graduate Schools.
The preliminary round of the 3MT® will take place on Wednesday, November 7, from 12-2pm and on Thursday, November 8, from 2-4pm. Following the prelims, finalists will move on to a second round which will be held on Friday, November 9 from 1-3pm. Prizes will be awarded as follows:
1st place: $500 plus funding for the winner and their advisor to travel to the regional competition at the Conference of Southern Graduate Schools in Knoxville, Tennessee (February 14-16, 2019)
2nd place: $300
3rd place: $200
