The annual Graduate Faculty meeting will take place at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, May 14 in HL Griffin 215. Graduate Council members will be elected for three year terms in two areas: Area D (Architecture, English, Modern Languages, History and Geography, Music, and Philosophy) and Area F (Computer Engineering, Computer Science, and Mathematics). The two candidates from Area D are: Catherine Roche-Wallace and Yung-Hsing Wu and from Area F: Christo Christov and Hongyi Wu. |

| Qualifications: Nationally recognized music pedagogue and performer. Presentations at such prestigious symposia as International Horn Symposium, Texas Music Educators' conference, and College Music Society southern symposium. Served on over 20 graduate committees, chaired four. Bachelor's and Master's degrees from Youngstown State and Doctorate in Musical Arts from University of Memphis. | ||||||||||||||||||
| Goals for Graduate Council (if elected): Continue to raise standards for our graduate students. Work to standardize procedures in exit exams, theses, and final projects across all curricula. Find opportunities to encourage national level publication/ presentation for our students. | ||||||||||||||||||

| Qualifications: I received my Ph.D. degree in Computer Science from the State University of New York at Buffalo in 2002. Since then, I have been with the Center for Advanced Computer Studies, University of Louisiana at Lafayette, where I was promoted to Associate Professor in 2007. I received an NSF CAREER Award in 2004. | ||||||||||||||||||
| Goals for Graduate Council (if elected): To assist the Graduate School Dean in setting up programs and policies related to graduate study and research; to maintain the quality of graduate education; to optimize graduate education and research across the campus; to establish, disestablish, and regulate graduate programs at the Master’s and Ph.D. levels; and to identify and prioritize graduate programs. | ||||||||||||||||||

| Qualifications: Developed finite-difference and spectral methods for viscous flows, thermoconvection, solutions, shock propagation in compressible liquids, inverse problems. Proposed new models in heat conduction and electrodynamics. Published 119 journal papers and 74 proceedings, one research monograph, and edited two volumes. Supervised more than 10 PhD dissertations, five of which at UL Lafayette. | ||||||||||||||||||
| Goals for Graduate Council (if elected): To work to improve graduate studies at UL Lafayette and popularize the graduate program, e.g., in mathematics. To participate in the activities of the graduate faculty including mentoring younger colleagues. To work with diverse groups of colleagues to identify the possibility for creating interdisciplinary teams for granting interdisciplinary degrees. | ||||||||||||||||||
