Prospective Graduate Student FAQs |

| How do I apply for graduate school? If you are applying to the UL Lafayette Graduate School for the first time, you must complete an Application for Admission, pay a $25 application fee, turn in 3 letters of reference, submit GRE scores (GMAT if applying for MBA) from ETS, submit official transcripts from all universities and colleges attended, and submit official immunization records form. Please go to Graduate Programs to learn which specific admissions materials are needed beyond the general graduate school admission materials. For international students, you must complete an Application for Admission, pay a $30 application fee, turn in 3 letters of reference, submit TOFEL & GRE scores (GMAT if applying for MBA) from ETS, submit official transcripts from all universities and colleges attended, submit official immunization records form, and complete a financial statement. These forms are available through Downloadable Forms. |

| What if I have attended graduate school at
UL Lafayette before? You must complete an Application for Admission. When asked if you have ever attended ULL as a graduate student, make sure to say yes. You also need to pay a $5 readmission fee ($15 for international students). If you are returning to the same program this is all that is submitted. If you have attended graduate school here before but are applying to a new program, then new letters of reference must also be submitted. |
| What if I have attended graduate school here
before, but I have been out for either a fall or spring semester? A student whose enrollment in the Graduate School is not continuous (that is, one who is not enrolled for one or more semesters) is required to submit an application for readmission, accompanied by a $5 readmission fee ($15 for international students) |
| How can I pay my application fee? We accept cash, money order (demand draft), or check via mail or in the office, Martin Hall room 332. You can also pay online with a credit card when submitting the online application. |
| What is the process an application goes through? When all necessary application materials are received by the Graduate School Office, the application is forwarded to the department for consideration. The documents that must be here in order to forward the application consist of an application, application fee, at least 2 letters of reference, test scores, official transcripts from all colleges and universities attended, and any department required application materials (for example, work history for MBA only). When the department makes a decision, it forwards this information to the Graduate School Office who in turn notifies the student of the admissions decision through the mail. |
| Where can I check my application status
online? Our current online application system does not have a feature which allows you to check the status of your application or the supporting documents. To check the status of your application or to confirm receipt of supporting documents, please contact the Graduate School by email or by phone at 337-482-6965. Be sure to include your full name and application ID number or student ID number in all correspondence to best help us identify you and protect your confidential information. |
| When can I expect to receive a decision on
my application? The length of time it takes to process an application once it is complete depends upon the department to which the application is made. Once the decision is received by the Graduate School Office, a letter is mailed to the applicant. |
| When are the application deadlines for international
students? A completed application must be received 60-90 days before the semester begins. This would be May 15th for fall semesters and October 15th for spring semesters. International students may not apply for the summer semester unless they are transferring from another American university. In this case, they should check the schedule to see if courses are being offered in the summer in that degree program. NOTE: Some departments and graduate programs have earlier deadlines. |
| When are the application deadlines for U.S.
Citizens and permanent residents? All application materials must be received in time for the application to be forwarded to the department and for a decision to be made and posted prior to the start of classes for each semester. We recommend that students have all materials in to us no later than 30 days prior to the beginning of a semester. NOTE: Some departments and graduate programs have earlier deadlines. |
| What is the minimum GPA expected for admission
