What is the "Application for Admission to Candidacy" form?
This is a form that all graduate students must fill out upon completion of 12 hours of graduate credit. Before a student can submit this form, they must fill it out completely and obtain the required signatures from their committee chair, department head or graduate advisor, and any committee members. Students who are admitted on conditional status should also turn in a "Petition for Regular Status" at the same time. Both of these forms can be found under Downloadable Forms.

When do I have to apply for candidacy?
Early in the semester that follows your completion of 12 graduate credits. Students who wait too long in the semester to submit this form will obtain a hold on their registration until they submit the form.

I was admitted on conditional status. How do I gain regular status?
All international students who do not have a degree from an American university are admitted in conditional status. Additionally, students are admitted in conditional status for reasons such as a low GPA and/or low standardized test scores (GRE or GMAT). A student admitted in conditional status must complete the "Petition for Regular Status" and return it to Mrs. Nancy. The form is located under Downloadable Forms.

To be eligible to submit a Petition for Regular Status, a student must either:
  1. Successfully complete 12 hours of graduate credit with a 3.00 grade point average or better and no more than one grade of 'C', OR
  2. Submit satisfactory GRE/GMAT scores, OR
  3. Both, as applicable to their situation.
