Important Information for Admitted International Students

The UL Lafayette Graduate School is pleased to provide the following information about our application procedures to ensure timely processing of your application. Each applicant must take the initiative in ascertaining and meeting requirements of the Graduate School when submitting an application for admission. Only written notice from the Dean of the Graduate School constitutes approval of admission; correspondence with a department or faculty member provides no such guarantee. The UL Lafayette Graduate School uses a portfolio approach to graduate admissions. The University is in compliance with all federal laws pertaining to discrimination.

INSTRUCTIONS

Once the online application is completed and submitted, all credentials should be sent to the Graduate School office as soon as possible. Send to: The Graduate School, University of Louisiana at Lafayette, Box 44610, Lafayette, LA 70504-4610. Applications and supporting documents must be submitted at least 30 days before the beginning of the semester for which admission is sought, and at least 90 days for applications from foreign countries.

FEES

A non-refundable application fee of $25.00 for United States citizens, permanent residents, and refugees and $30.00 for international students must be paid before an application will be processed. An application for a student who does not attend the University can be updated for one year without repayment of the application fee.

TRANSCRIPTS

Prior to or at the time of submission of the application, the applicant must arrange with authorities of all colleges previously attended to have two official transcripts of undergraduate and graduate credits sent directly to the Dean of the Graduate School. If you are a graduate of UL Lafayette, you do not need to request that a transcript be sent, since the Graduate School will obtain your transcript from the Registrar's Office.

LETTERS OF REFERENCE

Three letters of reference are required for applications. Letters should be written by three individuals who are aware of your academic ability and can address the question of your ability to succeed in Graduate School. There is a form offered on the Graduate School's website that can be used but is not required. The persons who submit the letters of reference should return them directly to the Graduate School.

GRADUATE RECORD EXAMINATION (GRE)

You are required to take the Verbal, Quantitative, and Analytical Writing portions of the General Test of the GRE. Regular admission to any graduate program requires a satisfactory score on these three portions of the examination. The test must be taken prior to beginning graduate study in a degree program. Applicants are responsible for contacting to ETS and requesting that official copies of their GRE Scores be sent to this office. For information concerning the GRE testing dates, applicants should communicate directly with ETS at Graduate Record Examinations, Educational Testing Service, P.O. Box 6004, Princeton, NJ 08541-6004, or www.gre.org.

GRADUATE MANAGEMENT ADMISSION TEST (GMAT)

Students entering the MBA (Master of Business Administration) or HCA (Health Care Administration) program are required to take the GMAT instead of the GRE. For information, applicants should contact: Pearson, VUE Attention: GMAT Program, P.O. Box 581907, Minneapolis, MN 55458-1907, or www.mba.com.

TEST OF ENGLISH AS A FOREIGN LANGUAGE (TOEFL)

International students must provide proof of English language proficiency by submitting official TOEFL scores. Applicants are responsible for contacting ETS and requesting that official copies of their TOEFL Scores be sent to this office. Information concerning the TOEFL examination can be obtained by writing to: TOEFL, P.O. Box 6103, Princeton, NJ, USA 08541-6103 or by visiting www.ets.org/toefl. Depending upon performance on the TOEFL and on-campus English language examinations, the University may require an applicant to enroll in and satisfactorily complete specified courses in the University's ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) Program.

IMMUNIZATION RECORDS

The University's Proof of Immunization Compliance Form can be downloaded from the Graduate School's website. This form is required by law of every student born after 1956 enrolling for the first time at UL Lafayette and should be returned directly to the Graduate School. Please note that no attachments or photocopies are accepted.

FINANCIAL STATEMENT

International students must be able to furnish proof of financial ability to meet educational and living costs. A financial statement can be downloaded from the Graduate School's website, and it should be returned directly to the Graduate School office.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

Applicants are encouraged to contact their prospective departments to see if further application materials are needed. A list of graduate programs and graduate coordinators, along with their contact information, can be found on the Graduate School's website.
